The Government Construction Strategy was published by the Cabinet office on 31 May 2011. The report announced the Governments intention to require: collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on its projects by 2016.

DES are ahead of the curve through the introduction of BIM into the designing of electrical projects. Currently the electrical construction industry relies on 2D drawings to layout, design and estimate in building facilities. However with the development of Building Information Modelling (BIM), it has changed how buildings, infrastructure and utilities are planned, designed and built are extraordinary. The digital representation of physical and functional characteristics provides a reliable basis for decisions throughout the facilities lifecycle.

John Leahy, Pre Con Manger at DES stated, ‘the use of BIM within DES will truly reflect the company’s ability to ease and embrace change whilst producing 3D drawings in Revit to the highest quality. The programme will have multiple benefits including better views of the facility resulting in better decision making’.
